Happy Anniversary to Me
Ten years today I was taking my first steps along the path of Japanese embroidery. In that time there have been births and deaths, new homes and new jobs, new friends and new knowledge and skills.

Lilacs v2, hanging scroll
New blog post from Nejiribana-spiralling flower designs. It's been a bit quiet here for the last couple of weeks, working on the morning glory piece and on Autumn Moon, both are growing but very very slowly so I don't have any progress to share.

Get Knotted
New blog post - When I was in Japan a few years ago I saw this wonderful uchikake (wedding kimono) decorated completely in knots (sagara nui). In Japanese embroidery we use sagara a lot, but is usually as a highlight not for a whole piece.

Kusano Lily - Episode 3 The Lily
My first stitches on this piece (after the outlining) were on the lily. It was all worked in a 2-1T. As the thread supplied by Kusano Sensei has less suga than the JEC thread I'm used to the twist was a little thinner. I thought it would take ages to fill it in.

Kusano Lily - episode 2
Nejiribana-spiralling flower designs - new blog post - Kusano Lily Episode 2 - stitching with katayori, yes, katayori. Kusano sensei calls this katsura-yori. This one is a 4-1T, it's made in the same way as normal but with 10 suga per thread it turns out a little thinner than normal.

Kusano san Class June 2013
New blog post - I would like to dedicate this post to my friends and to Pat Hopper my first tutor on my journey for Japanese embroidery. Very sadly Pat passed away a few weeks ago after a short illness. She would have loved the week we spent with Kusano sensei and all the new things we learned.

Kusano San Design - part 4
Next week is going to be very exciting, to meet Kusano sensei and see all the lovely work she is bringing will be a wonderful experience. Our group has completed 9 versions of the flower circle to show her (including a very special beaded version), I hope she will be pleased by our efforts.
