Talking & listening to threads
Welcome to my blog. I will be posting about the progress of new works and generally letting you know what I'm up to.
Pictures of completed pieces and extra photos of new work can be found in the Image Gallery.
I am posting less on here these days but on-going progress is being shared via Instagram, use the QR code below for my page.

It was back in March when I last posted, it only seems a short while but here we are nearly in July. Where is the year going?

New project, Hydrangea Fan
With the new Japanese Embroidery Academy up and running and most of the compulsory modules designed and stitched, I've been trying to come up with other options for designs for the students.

A quick post today, unlike this piece which was started in 2014. Various things interrupted its progress but finally it is compete and I'm very pleased with how it has turned out.

New Year Finishes
2016 was a less productive year than I had intended but it ended well and 2017 has started off with two projects being completed, a good start.

Five Fans - an update
Another class has been and gone, another horrid cold also been and gone. Back to work tomorrow so time for a very quick update . I travelled south for class a couple of weeks ago, this time as a student. With changes to work I wasn't able to go last year so it was nice just to be able to sit and stitch with everyone else and catch up on what they were doing.

It's been a while
It's been ages since I posted and little embroidery has been done since the beginning of August. After coming down with a horrid chest infection I was off work for almost the whole of August and September but so unwell that I had no concentration or energy left for JE. I did sit and do quite a lot of crochet so some work was done.

Maplefall - another empty frame
After a long time I have an empty frame, the design for JEUK module 8 is complete. Now I really, really need to get the others complete before I start anything else. I found it very difficult to work on this piece in the winter, the light was so poor that I just couldn't see the valleys in the fabric and as it's all done in fuzzy effect that was quite a problem. Once the light improved it came along very quickly.

Grapes & Leaves - progress
I've done bits and pieces on this piece over the last few months so thought it was time for a bit of a catch up. When I last posted I'd completed the foundation on the biggest of the leaves. Temporary holding was put in and I used a shell powder transfer for the veins. These were embroidered using line of staggered diagonals in various colours.

Novel Inspiration Part 3
Here we are then, part three on novel effects. I've shared some of these before but it's been a while and they bear repeating. This was a gift to Michicko from the mother of one of her friends. It was created when she learned embroidery at school as a teenager about 70 years ago. Enjoy.

Novel Inspiration Part 2
A few more novel effects to share with you all, part 3 to come soon. This first is 3D effect which all students of Japanese embroidery will recognise, this has a different take on the colour scheme which is interesting.
